GAS STATIONS

In Oregon, it is illegal to pump your own gas unless designated self pump times are posted.

If you need to fill up after hours use a credit card at the Enterprise Chevron.

LOW ON FUEL

If traveleling via Hwy 82- the last available gas station is in Elgin, Oregon. For those traveling via WA- 129/ OR HWY 3, once you leave Asotin, Washington there are no gas stations for 80 miles.

OPEN RANGE

Be prepared to break for deer, elk and open range livestock.

PHONE SERVICE

No matter which route you take to get here, there will be large stretches of road where you will not have any cell reception.

RESIDENT DEER

Wallowa Lake has a sizable herd of mule deer that are very comfortable with humans. The Fish and Game department asks that you please do not feed them. Although they may appear tame, they are still wild and can strike or maim you or your pets. Every year local veterinarians treat life threatening injuries to dogs that have been attacked by the deer.

WEATHER

Weather in the mountains is unpredictable and can change in a matter of minutes. There are times when it has snowed on July 4th, so no matter when you visit- pack a few extra items so you won't be caught unprepared.

WINDY ROADS

Individuals who are prone to car sickness may want to take preventive medications as there are sections of windy roads on both highways coming into the county.
